Big Tancook Island is 6 miles south of Chester in the spectacular sailing waters of Mahone Bay and is accessed several times daily by passenger ferry. The island is 550 acres of a nature lover`s paradise and will provide you with a comfortable and relaxing vacation or year-round home. After alighting from the Ferry, look to your right and "The Island Cape", situated on 1.7 acres, is the deep red one welcoming you onto the island. Built in 1849 this solid, west facing home sits on a ridge overlooking the harbour. Original fireplace, hutch, pine floors, doors & mouldings. In keeping with the age of the house it has been re-shingled in cedar shakes on the walls and on the roof. The furnace and blower were replaced in 2006. A new pump installed August 2008. Big Tancook and Little Tancook are 2 islands located 6 miles off the southern coast of Nova Scotia in Mahone Bay. These two islands are accessible by passenger ferry--the William G. Ernst is stationed at Big Tancook and makes daily runs to and from the historic yachting community of Chester.
